When the word “natural bridge” comes to mind, few people think of Ohio. In fact, I’d imagine almost anyone would be astonished to discover there’s even a single natural bridge in Ohio, let alone a dozen of them! Yes, Ohio doesn’t have quite the same concentration of natural bridges that western states like Utah have been blessed with, but Ohio is home to several very impressive natural bridges, including Rockbridge Natural Arch, Raven Rock Natural Arch, and this one, the Irish Run Natural Bridge. The Irish Run Natural Bridge is 51 feet long, 19 feet wide, and over 16 feet thick at some points. The bridge is located in the Marietta Unit of the Wayne National Forest in the upper portion of a stream hollow and was formed through water erosion. Visitors can walk under, over, or across the bridge to their heart’s content.
