Valley of the Ancients Trail:

Trail takes you down into the deep Rocky Fork Gorge and past amazing rock formations. The trail was named for the towering hemlock trees that dominate the forest along the trail:

Etawah Woods Loop Trail:

.5 miles, Moderate
Trail follows the rim of the Rocky Fork Gorge. A spur trail can be taken down into the gorge for views of the Three Sisters Rock Formation, the park's most famous geologic feature.

Big Beech Loop Trail:
.25 miles, Easy
Trail takes you through an old growth forest in the park, one of the few remaining forests in Ohio that have not been touched by man.

Located in South-Central Ohio, Highlands Nature Sanctuary is a lesser known park that protects the Rocky Fork Gorge, a steep gorge with cliff walls towering almost 100 feet up on both sides of the stream. This area has the highest concentration of caves anywhere in Ohio, but sadly all of the park's caves have been closed for protection and conservation. NOTE: Trails are only open on weekends April through October 9:30AM - 5:00PM. However, If you donate $35, you can have access to the park and its trails any day of the year!
