How to get there:
Blue Hen falls is located on Boston Mills road behind the ski resort. If you're driving north from Peninsula on Riverview road, turn left on to Boston mills road and go about a mile and it will be on the right side of the road. Overflow parking is on the left.
Blue Hen Trail
Tucked in the woods behind the Boston Mills Ski resort, The Blue Hen Falls Trail is a 1/2 mile out and back trail that can be lengthened to a 2 mile round trip if you continue hiking down to Buttermilk falls farther downstream
Trail details:
Length: 1 mile (one way)
Difficulty: Moderate (path to Buttermilk include 3 river crossings and a steep descent)
Trail description: The trail begins with a drop into the Spring Creek stream valley. Once you reach stream level you will take a metal footbridge over Spring Creek. If you continue hiking straight you will begin hiking on the Buckeye trail. Take a right and a few hundred feet later you will be at Blue Hen Falls. Blue Hen Falls is one of Ohio's most photographed waterfalls, up there with the Upper Falls of Old Mans cave and Brandywine Falls, a bigger waterfall that's also located in the park. Continue on past the waterfall. A sign says that the trail has ended but an obvious path continues past it. If you follow the path downstream you will cross the creek three times. This can become difficult if you are making the hike after a heavy rain. If it has rained recently, check the walls of the valley for waterfalls, there are at least a few small ones that pop up after a heavy rain. The ruins of an old bridge remain at the third stream crossing. After you cross the stream, you are at the top of Buttermilk falls. Walk down the steep hill to the right to get down to the base. If you want to catch a quick view of the valley as well, climb the ridge to the right of the falls (pretty difficult) for views of the valley from the top of Boston Mills ski resort.
